Kalka Mata temple is in Samirpur — some write it Shamirpur — a village on the Gaggal side of Kangra, in the same pincode as us. Once a year it holds a fair, and thousands of people come for it.
Most of what turns up when you search for Kalka Mata is about somewhere else, so here is which temple this is, what we know about the fair, and how to reach it.
Which Kalka Mata temple is this?
The name gets mixed up with two other places.
- Kalka, in Haryana. The town where the toy train to Shimla starts is named after its Kali Mata temple, and a plain search for Kalka Mata usually ends up there. It is a long way from here.
- Samirpur in Hamirpur district. A different village with the same name, in the next district, with its own pincode.
This one is Samirpur in Kangra tehsil, pincode 176214. Salol is one of its neighbours.
So if someone tells you they went to Kalka Mata, it is worth asking which one.
When is the Kalka Mata fair at Samirpur?
The temple holds its fair once a year. In 2026 it began on 22 June, opened at two in the afternoon by the local MLA. Thousands of people came through that day, and a community meal was served to everyone who came.
That year, buses ran free to the fair from Gaggal, Jamanabad, Tiara, Kangra and Dehrian — which is our village.
The 2026 date is the only one we have on record, so do not plan around it. If you want to be here for the fair, ask us for this year's date first.
How to reach Kalka Mata temple
Samirpur is out on the village roads on the Salol side, the same way you would go for Tiara. Your own car or a taxi is the easy way. The last part is on narrow village roads, so ask us the morning you go and we will tell you which way is in better shape.
The temple's timings are not published anywhere. If you are going early or late in the day, ask us the evening before.
