The slow train in,
and a short run up.
Yash Rock Hotel is a short run up the hill from Kangra’s two stations on the narrow-gauge Kangra Valley line. Kangra Mandir, in town, is the stop for us, and Kangra station, below the fort, is the other. Rooms start at ₹999 a night, or ₹1,699 with air conditioning, and a train that runs late is not a problem here.
Two stations, both close.
Kangra Mandir is in the town, by the temple and the bazaar. Kangra station is along the line below the fort, 8.5 km from us by road. Either way it is a short run up the hill at the end.
Tell us the train, not the time.
This line is slow and it keeps its own hours. Send us the train and the day, and we will look at what is actually running that week and tell you how to get up from the station you land at.
Coming from the plains, Pathankot is where the narrow gauge meets the broad, so that is where most people change. If you would rather do the last part by road, the bus stand is in town too.
The short version.
What rail travellers ask.
Anything else, message us. Somebody here will look at the timetable with you the week you travel.
Kangra Mandir, the station for the town and the temple — it is the stop for us. Kangra station, below the fort, is the other one on this stretch of the line, and works too if your train suits it better.
No. The Kangra Valley line is narrow gauge and slow, running from Pathankot in Punjab to Jogindernagar. Pathankot is where it meets the broad-gauge network, so that is where most people coming by rail from the plains change.
Message us with your train and roughly when it gets in, and we will tell you how to get up from there. It is a short run up the hill from either station.
Plan as though they might not be. Services on this line change more than a mainline does, so check the timetable close to your date — and if the railway has done what the railway does, arriving late is fine. Say so and the room will be held.
Yes. The line runs on east through the tea gardens past Palampur and Baijnath, so one leg of it makes a good half-day. Ask us the week you go and we will look at what is running.
If they like trains, it is often the best part of the trip. It is slow and the windows open, so bring an extra layer in winter.
The line itself.
There is a longer piece on the railway — whether it is worth doing, when to ride it, and doing it as a day out. Kangra Fort is just above Kangra station.
