The fort in the morning,
the water after.
Yash Rock Hotel is a short drive from Kangra Fort, with a swimming pool in the middle of it. Rooms start at ₹999 a night, or ₹1,699 with air conditioning — and if you are only up for the day, the pool is ₹250 a person from 9 am to 6 pm, which after a morning on the fort is the right way round.
A short drive, then a climb.
The fort sits above the meeting of the Banganga and the Majhi, and it is large — it is a morning rather than an hour, and most of that morning is spent climbing. Which is the argument for doing it early and being somewhere with water by two.
Come up just for the pool.
The pool is open to day visitors from 9 am to 6 pm at ₹250 a person, and it is included at no extra charge if you have taken a room. You do not have to book — though a message on the way up never hurts, because it is busy by four on a warm afternoon.
The restaurant is on site and the lawns run to the edge on every side, so an afternoon here does not have to end at the water. It is not heated, which is glorious from March to October and honest to admit in January.
What visitors ask us.
Anything else, message us. We would rather answer than have you guess at it from a review.
Most people give it a morning. It is large and it is uphill, so it is a better idea early than at two in the afternoon in June.
No — it is a short drive rather than a walk. Leave the car at the fort and come back to it; you will not need it again once you are up here.
Brajeshwari Mata in Kangra town is on the same morning, and the Masrur rock temples are a short drive on — fifteen shrines cut downwards out of a single sandstone ridge, and far less visited than they deserve.
Here. The pool is open 9 am to 6 pm, it is included if you have a room, and it is ₹250 a person if you have only come up for the day — which after a morning on the fort is the correct order to do things in.
The rest of that morning.
Brajeshwari Mata is in the town below the fort, and the Masrur rock temples are a short drive on. There is a two-day itinerary that puts all of it in order.
